How to Get to Park Güell
Buses H6 and D40 both take you to Travessera de Dalt, from where you can walk to the park in about 10 minutes. A one-way bus ticket for an adult costs €2.40.
You can also take the metro by using the green line, L3, to the Lesseps or Vallcarca station. From there, it’s also a 10-minute walk to the park, and the same ticket system applies as for the bus.
The History of Park Güell
Park Güell was designed and constructed by Antoni Gaudí along with his assistant Josep Maria Jujol between 1900 and 1914. Originally, the plan was not to create a park but a residential area with exclusive plots.
It was businessman Eusebi Güell who purchased the land and planned the sale of these plots. He commissioned Gaudí to create a unique experience for future residents. The park included two gatekeeper lodges, a staircase leading to a unique marketplace where residents could shop, a large square, and numerous elegant terraces.
However, very strict rules were set for purchasing, and it was also too expensive for most Barcelona residents at the time. As a result, the project failed, with only two buyers registering interest.
Instead, the area became a visitor attraction for those wanting to experience its unique architecture and artworks. In 1984, Park Güell was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
